Final PERM Regulation Implementation "Highly Unlikely" Before End of Obama's Term

At the Department of Labor (DOL) stakeholder meeting on September 12, 2016, the acting Office of Foreign Labor Certification (OFLC) Administrator William Thomspon gave an update on the status of the Program Electronic Review Management (PERM) modernization regulation.

What are PERM regulations?

PERM is the system used for obtaining labor certification. It is also the first step for certain foreign nationals in obtaining an employment-based immigration visa (“green card”). Thompson confirmed that the draft regulation is still under review. Based on the current state of the process, he said that implementation of a final regulation of the system before the end of Obama’s Presidency in January 2017 would be “highly unlikely.”
