Self-Sponsored Physician Green Card Process

The Physician National Interest Waiver(PNIW) process allows some physicians working in Health Professional Shortage areas and Medically Underserved Areas to become eligible to apply for permanent residency after completing five years of full-time employment. The PNIW petition is filed by the physician and does not require an employer sponsor. The petition can be filed at any time before, during, or after the employment. This is an excellent option available to physicians.

Question 1: Are you an international physician working in a Health Professional Shortage Area/Medically Underserved Area?
Question 2: Are you currently working on visas other than J-1?
Question 3: Are you willing to work in a Health Professional Shortage Area/Medically Underserved Area for five years?

If you answered Yes to all three questions, you might be eligible for the PNIW petition. If not, you may qualify for other green card routes, including self-sponsorship.
