Form I-485 Redesign from USCIS to Reduce Complexity

As of June 26, 2017, USCIS published a Form I-485 redesign with new instructions for use of the form. There will be a 6-day grace period, but as of August 25, 2017, USCIS will only accept the 6/26/17 version of the form.

What is the purpose of the redesign?

The purpose of the redesign was to make the form easier to understand and less complex in general. The redesign should reduce requests for evidence. USCIS also revised the A and J Supplements to this form.

Applicants already living in the U.S. file Form I-485 to adjust status to lawful permanent resident. This is a critical step for those seeking citizenship.
